I voted for Mr. Jackson. But he turned out to be an embarrassment very soon. I was also at the meeting. This was not a mob but parents - many like myself - embarrassed by Mr. Jackson but also Mr. Davison. Because if you want to talk about mob and mob-like behavior, have a look on how Mr. Davison behaves on TJ Facebook page, insulting both parents and students who disagree with him (although I am sure you know it because it doesn’t differ too much from the style above). The same thing applies to his five min speach at TJ - the weakest and most politized speach by the candidates, which also insulted others. This is what I call the menatlity of people who can’t do a decent job running an institution and lose. Similarly to the January 6 crowd. A mob.

Thank you very much for sharing your opinion. My note should not be seen or interpreted as a defense of Mr. Jackson's or Mr. Davison's personal styles. Both are capable of defending themselves. In fact, it is important to clarify that I am not in agreement with all their views and I do not have all the facts regarding Dr. Jackson's management style. My note intends to denounce the hypocrisy of many of the parents who attended the November 11 general membership meeting to elect Ms. Rivers and comported themselves as a MOB. In reality their behavior does NOT differ much from that of MAGA supporters or those who perpetrated the January 6 riot. My note also intends to indict the process by which Dr. Jackson was forced to resigned, the abusive interference of the Virginia PTA in the internal affairs of the TJPTSA at the REQUEST & COMPLICITY of many parents who happily behaved like a mob on the 11/11 meeting, the relentless opposition of the TJPTSA Secretary, Laura Marschoun, and the opposition of members of the Executive Board of the TJPTSA, headed by Jun Wang, to reduce the membership fee. I brought to the attention of Dr. Jackson that many of the new Hispanic/Latino families who have been admitted to TJ in the 2025 Class shared with me their concerns regarding the exorbitant fee ($40.) Dr. Jackson supported the lowering of the membership fees. Two more things: I am firm believer and defender of freedom of speech and thought. Both, Mr. Jackson and Mr. Davison - irrespectively of their personal styles - have the right to express their views in any medium and to associate with any political organizations of their liking. They should not be penalized for that. We could disagree in terms of their styles, but we cannot curtail or worst yet censored their freedom of expression. My piece of advice for those who get into a debate is that "if you cannot handle the heat, stay away from the kitchen." And, I have already drafted a detailed bylaws for a PTO (Parent Teacher Organization) for our school. Main highlights: it will be an autonomous organization, bye bye Virginia PTA and National PTA- no need to devote 1/4 of the membership fee to to pay the fees for these organizations that DO NOT PROVIDE ANY TANGIBLE BENEFIT TO OUR SCHOOL, it includes a provision by which it can dispense altogether with the concept of membership fee, it guarantees freedom of expression in their individual capacity of its elected officers, and it includes Fundraising and Business Liaison Committees. If you want to comment on it, please send me an email to nmargulies@yahoo.com I will be setting up a Facebook page in which I will post it to gather the views of all interested parents. There are as twice as many PTOs than PTAs in the US. The PTA model is obsolete. It is time to reformulate how parents can get involved and support their school. I argue that PTOs are the right vehicle.

Wow, what’s it like looking at the world through bonkers-cooored glasses? Sounds like a lot of sour grapes since you couldn’t mobilize your reactionary cabal this time.

Were you there DougB? If you were, point out to me which statement in my note is "bonkers-cooored" My account of the November 11 general membership meeting is factual: incensed parents, exhibiting abusive and bully behavior.

In regard to your "sour grapes" comment, let's recap the brief tenure of Dr. Harry Jackson (from May to October)

In May, the TJ community hosted elections and Harry Jackson won. Period. He was elected by the majority of VOTES. That is democracy all about. Then, two weeks into his tenure, some DISGRUNTLED parents contacted the president of the Virginia PTA, Pamela Croom, and asked her to intervene. They could NOT handle that a BLACK pro-merit parent was elected the president of the TJPTSA. Croom sent an intent letter threatening to revoke the TJPTSA chapter and confiscate its funds. Next move, the Virginia PTA placed it under probation. Harry had to deal with the relentless opposition of the Secretary of the TJPTSA, Laura Marschoun. Harry proposed to lower the membership fee ($40 - the highest in the State of Virginia.) He also proposed to have all the meetings of the Executive Board recorded and shared with the community. Where is the reactionary part here? Is it reactionary to propose to lower the membership fee? Is it reactionary to propose to have transparency? On 10/14 during an online general membership meeting many criticized Harry for his personal opinions included in an Op-ed by William McGurn! What is the problem with Harry sharing his own opinions? Who is the reactionary there? Those who were trying to censor Harry? Or Harry for sharing his personal views? During the same meeting. Laura Marschoun asked Harry to me moved from conducting the meeting. On 10/20 four members of the Executive Board, including Laura Marschoun meet with officers of the Virginia PTA, including Pamela Croom to discuss the removal of Harry. Days after the meeting, Laura Marschoun along with three members of the Executive Board signed a letter calling for a special meeting on November 3 to discuss the removal of Harry. Harry was forced to resign. Sour grapes? Yes. Your group is sour grapes. You could not handle that a pro merit BLACK man was the president of the TJPTSA and your REACTIONARY CABAL orchestrated his fall. And, you want me to be part of the farce of November 11? I bet you are now very please to have Ms. Rivers as the president of the TJPTSA. right?
